As Black and Brown Bodied educators many of us have been holding and shouldering the weight of race and racialized harm in White education spaces. Covid, George Floyd, attacks on Ethnic Studies and Critical Race Theory, have emboldened and revived ever present racial tension and hostility. Black and Brown bodied educators and students have borne the brunt of this burden, and have responded by resisting, resigning and relocating. These are protective responses to persistent harm. But they are not the only responses.
In partnership with Black and Brown bodied educators, the Ujima Collective is exploring what could be in a communal Healing Space with other Black and Brown bodied educators.
Utilizing an embodied Somatic Abolitionist approach, educators explore different somatic practices that can help us heal and metabolize the trauma we experience in white education spaces. These practices combine historical grounding and context for what the are feeling today, and help them to be better prepared to hold the charge and the weight of race and white supremacy in the educational space.
50 state permit to carry course features an all-inclusive, Black-centered, and trauma-informed firearm, home, and personal safety education training and engagement program. 200+ community members have received valuable skills and bodies of knowledge that can save lives and reduce the likelihood of unsafe use of firearms.
